Sunshine

There are lots of cures to rain:

You could drown your woes in hot chocolate(this could get you wired) or alcohol(this just gets you depressed)

You could cuddle(I'm finding my pillow to be a passable alternative to an actual person, though I'm thinking it will pass soon)

You could play board games(don't scoff they are fun)

or

You could wake up to find that Little Dragon  has released their first single since their album Ritual Union last year. The song so aptly called Sunshine created in conjunction with Absolute for the absolute remix sessions confirms that the band hasn't lost their mojo. Beautifully layered with Yukimi Nagano's vocals bringing it all together make my day and a few days to come. Who says instant fixes aren't the answer?

The little things

Waking up feeling like the world is at your feet is easy, getting through the rest of the day isn't.


I woke up yesterday feeling like I could take on the world. It wasn't until I stepped into a cold shower, stubbed my toe, pushed my bike up a hill missed the ferry and dropped my sandwich that I realised something was very wrong. What was worse?
It was only 8 o clock in the morning.


Things began to accumulate and by nine at night I was a blithering,hysterical mess. Of course the little things merged into my larger problems and after a brief moment of existential angst I realised that the only logical thing to do was to wait for midnight so hopefully the next day would be better to work. I learned three things:


Being superstitious leads only to lack of sleep and a mild case of acidity.


If you ever feel a tantrum coming get someone close to you to slap you. It helps in the long run.


Buy a washing machine. Washing your own clothes solves nothing


Today isn't much better than the last but one will eventually have to grow up and grow a pair.
Besides, rage is best released through music. This time I found solace in Little Dragon. 
After the rain is a little manic but its perfect when you're in weird headspace. The video is fabulous(like most little dragon videos)

A long silence

These past few months have just been so completely hectic that I haven't had time to post anything. I do however regret having ever not continued this blog. Sorry about that.


Its been a time of disappointment and happiness a lot of my favourite musicians have released new albums(most of them very bad) and I've been trying to keep in touch.


Gorillaz launched their new album Empire ants in march this year and was conceived from an unfinished Gorillaz project called Carousel.  It features guest appearances by several artists, including Snoop Dogg, Gruff Rhys, Bobby Womack, Mos Def, Lou Reed, Mick Jones, and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. 


I'm not sure if I like this album but what caught my eye was a song featuring Little Dragon. I've mentioned the band earlier and love their music. One can essentially put this song into two parts; the latter being the more exciting bit. I can't put my finger on it but there is something about this song that I really like! What I'm asking is for you to listen to it before making up your mind.

Little Dragon

I think i mentioned 'scribbled paper' in the last little dragon article but I was listening to it again and i've realised that its quite, quite beautiful! I also just noticed this lovely instrumental bit in the song. Hinting at jazz at the same time quite lounge like. Their music tends to grow on you.

Shilo introduced me to Little Dragon on the bus today and for that i will be forever in her debt.

Little Dragon is a Swedish band consisting of Swedish-Japanese singer Yukimi Nagano(vocals, percussion. She also sang a few songs with Koop on their Koop Island blues album) and her close high-school friends Erik Bodin (drums), Fredrik Källgren Wallin (bass), and Håkan Wirenstrand (keyboards).

The first Little Dragon's release was a double A-side 7’’ single ‘Twice’/’Test’, released on Off The Wall label in 2006. The following year, the band signed with the larger British Peacefrog records and released their debut self-titled album Little dragon in 2007.

This song is simply beautiful. Its one of those that you put on repeat and listen to all day. Its tender and full of all these little surprises in the vocals. If you are in Bangalore the weather is perfect for this song!

Unfortunately the rest of the album is not half as good, I don't think they have figured how to do the slightly upbeat songs without compromising on their sound.

The video of this song is just as beautiful as the song itself. Like the song its beauty lies in its simplicity. I know I've used the word beautiful too many times but its all I can think of when i listen to it. What a lovely way to start the day!
